I did my first degree in Genetics. After doing time working down under in Adelaide, Australia I returned to England in 1999 and decided to study as an Osteopath, for the first two years at the BSO in London, then completed the course in Oxford. I also undertook a diploma in Sports Injuries and Remedial Massage. As well as working in Leamington I practise in Chipping Campden and Moreton in the Marsh. I teach Pilates in the north Cotswolds.
I am a keen violinist and understand the problems involved with the repetitive strain injuries which can occur when playing an instrument.
I work in collaboration with an eminent arthritis consultant, realising the importance of prehabilitation (strengthening the musculature around joints) before hip and knee replacement surgery to aid a speedy recovery.
I am currently undertaking a course on the osteopathic treatment of household pets (including reptiles!)
Did you know that your bite can be the cause of headaches and neck problems?
I am very interested in TMJ (jaw!) misalignments, having studied this aspect of dentistry during a year at Newcastle University Dental School. I can now use this knowledge to work osteopathically in conjunction with your own dentist to alleviate problems.
Tanya is currently helping Warwick University with a clinical trial on chronic headaches. Trials like this are important because NICE uses the results to advise health professionals. In the past NICE used the results of a similar trial focussing on chronic lower back pain to advise GPs that they can safely refer patients to osteopaths.
